Before you start

  • A booking page with at least one service.
  • Your booking policy, if you have one, and the questions you ask new clients.

Step 1: Open your booking rules

All the rules for client bookings sit on one page.

  1. In a wide window, select Settings, then Booking. On a phone or a narrow window, open Account, then Settings and Booking.

  2. Switches save straight away. Numbers and text wait for Save changes in the bar at the bottom.

Done when: the Booking page shows What your clients see.

Step 2: Start from a preset

A preset sets the notice, how far ahead and the change limit in one go.

  1. Under Start from, pick Flexible, Standard or Strict. When your numbers match none, Custom is selected.

  2. A preset only fills in the numbers: they are kept once you save.

Done when: the numbers below match the preset you picked.

Step 3: Choose how bookings are confirmed

Client bookings are confirmed at once unless you approve each one.

  1. Under New bookings, Confirm bookings automatically is on for a new business.

  2. Turn it off to approve each client booking yourself. Turning it back on does not confirm the bookings already Pending.

Done when: Saved shows beside the switch.

Step 4: Set how soon and how far ahead

These two numbers decide which times clients are offered.

  1. Minimum notice, in hours, is how soon before the start a client can book. Your team can always book sooner.

  2. Book up to, in days, is how far ahead clients can book. It also limits the times your team is offered.

  3. Select Save changes.

Done when: Booking settings saved shows.

Step 5: Write your booking policy

Clients must accept the policy before they book.

  1. Write your rules in Booking policy: late arrivals, cancellations, what to bring.

  2. Leave it empty for no policy. A long policy folds behind a link on the booking form.

Done when: What your clients see shows your policy.

Step 6: Decide what clients can change

Clients can cancel or move a booking online until the limit you set.

  1. Under Changes by the client, Clients can cancel online and Clients can reschedule online are on for a new business.

  2. Set Changes allowed until in hours before the start, 24 by default. After that, clients contact you.

  3. A new limit counts at once for bookings already made.

Done when: What your clients see says what clients can change.

Step 7: Ask clients questions

Clients answer your questions before they confirm a booking.

  1. Under Questions when booking, select Add question, or start from one of the Suggestions.

  2. Write the question, choose the Answer type, add Choices for a choice, turn on Required if it must be answered, and select Save question.

  3. Turn on Ask these questions: clients see no questions while it is off.

Done when: your questions are listed and Ask these questions is on.

Step 8: Check what clients see

The summary repeats your rules the way clients get them.

  1. Read What your clients see: it updates as you type, and says so when changes are not saved yet.

  2. Open your booking page and go as far as the details step to see the policy and the questions.

Done when: the summary reads the way you want your rules to work.

If something looks different

  • Clients see no times in the next few hours.

    Likely cause
Minimum notice hides times that start too soon.
    What to do
    Lower Minimum notice and save.
  • A client can no longer cancel online.

    Likely cause
The Changes allowed until limit has passed for that booking, or Clients can cancel online is off.
    What to do
Cancel or move it for them in Appointments.
  • A client cannot book online.

    Likely cause
On Free, that month’s 10 bookings are used. The page closes only when every month within Book up to is full.
    What to do
A canceled booking frees a place, or choose Pro for no monthly limit. Bookings you make yourself still go through.

FAQ

Booking rules questions

Can I add a break between appointments?

Not here: each service has its own Buffer after each booking, under More options › Online booking. It spaces the start times offered; it does not add a break after each booking.

Do new rules change bookings I already have?

Notice, how far ahead and Confirm bookings automatically count for new bookings only. The change limit and its switches count at once, for every booking.

Do the rules apply to bookings I make myself?

Notice and Confirm bookings automatically do not, and you can skip required questions. How far ahead still limits the times you are offered.
